“The news story about the Iraqi Orders has been virtually ignored by the U.S. press. Order 81 is just one of 100 Orders that have been imposed on the people of Iraq by the U.S. government. These orders are sometimes referred to as the Bremmer Orders. No one in the U.S. or Iraq was ever allowed to cast a vote in the ballot box for any of these Orders. This says a lot about the kind of democracy that the U.S. is imposing on the people of Iraq.”

“Iraqi Order 81 is of special interest because it goes a long way in affecting every living being on the planet. This order prohibits Iraqi farmers from using the methods of agriculture that they have used for centuries. The common worldwide practice of saving heirloom seeds from one year to the next is now illegal in Iraq. Order 81 wages war on Iraqi farmers. They have lost the freedom and liberty to choose their own methods of agriculture.”
- Monsanto is an insidious corporation that is destroying plant diversity worldwide and bringing misery to farmers via genetically modified organisms. They are doing their dangerous deeds quickly and quietly with the blessings of the very people who are supposed to be protecting us.

Government enforced monopolies are wrong. I find it tough to say because I firmly believe in GM as the solution. But, the free market should decide. ANY corporation that uses the power of government to enforce their monopoly is evil. I really wanted to disagree with that incredibly slanted article. However, I cannot.

before you vote, take the time to read the actual order. It says you cannot pirate patents. Including patented seeds. The posting above made it sound like they were making it illegal to save seeds. Really what it says is that you cannot take a patented breed, raise a million of them and sell them yourself to undermine the patent.

There is no disagreement here in regard to your statement that you cannot take a patented seed, sow it, and then sell it yourself. That is a given.
It’s the method in which Monsanto claims infringement that is so troublesome.
The method that I refer to is the contamination of areas of non-gmo crops.
Wind and cross pollination are two vehicles by which contamination can occur, and farmers have no control over this. However, when this happens, Monsanto comes in and claims infringement.
This is one of those topics where the ‘devil is in the details’ and further investment of time is required to understand the full gravity of the situation. I was merely introducing readers to the outrageous monopoly takeover of Iraq’s agricultural system via Iraq Order 81.
If you are familiar with Monsanto vs. Schmeiser, you will understand what I am attempting to convey in this comment. If not, you may wish to read a bit more on the topic. Here is one link to get you started: http://www.percyschmeiser.com/
I thank you for being thorough.
